Reasons people don't give blood1. I don't like or am scared of needles; I am afraid to give blood.
Many people feel that way at first. However, most donors will tell you that you feel only a slight initial pinch, and 7-10 minutes later, you are finished and headed for the canteen. If you take the time (and courage) to make one donation, you'll wonder why you ever hesitated. 2. I am too busy. The entire process takes about an hour, and the actual blood donation time is only 7-10 minutes. If you stop to think that an hour of your time could mean a lifetime for a premature baby, someone with cancer undergoing chemotherapy, or someone who's had an accident, you might decide that you can make the time to give the gift of life. 3. No-one ever asked me ... I didn't realize my blood was needed. Consider yourself asked! There is simply no other way to supply the blood needs of hospital patients but for the generous donations of people like you. Every two seconds someone needs blood. 4. I already gave this year. You can give every 90 days. Many donors give 4 times a year! 5. I am afraid I'll get AIDS. It is not possible to get AIDS by donating blood. A new sterile needle is used for each donor and discarded afterwards. 6. My blood isn't the right type. Every type of blood is needed daily to meet patient needs. If you have a common blood type, there are many patients who need it, so it is in high demand. If you have a less common blood type, there are fewer donors available to give it, so it is in short supply. 7. I don't have any blood to spare. The average adult body has 10-12 pints (unit) of blood. Doctors say that healthy adults may give regularly because the body quickly replaces the blood you donate. 8. I don't want to feel weak afterward. Donating blood should not adversely affect a healthy adult because your body has plenty of blood. You will donate less than one pint, and your body, which constantly makes new blood, will replace the donated volume within 24 hours. Most people continue their usual activities after donating. 9. They won't want my blood. (I am too old. / I've had an illness.) If you have doubts, check with your physician. The qualified staff on duty at a blood drive will also review your medical history with you. There is no upper age limit to donate blood, and a great many medical conditions do not prevent you from donating blood, or may have done so only temporarily in the past. 10. I have a rare blood type, so I'll wait until there is a special need. Blood that is rare or special is almost always in short supply. There is a constant need for these blood types in order to avoid having to recruit specific blood types in a crisis. |
reasons people give blood1. TO FULFILL THE SUNNAH & GAIN THE PLEASURE OF ALLAH
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Charity is prescribed for each descendant of Adam every day the sun rises.” (Fiqh-us-Sunnah, Volume 3, Number 98). As ambassadors of the religion of Allah, Muslim are expected to go even further and spend from that which they love: “By no means shall you attain piety, until you spend in the way of Allah from that which you love. And whatever you spend – indeed Allah knows of it.” (Quran 3:92). What does man hold dearer to himself than his own blood? 2. TO ATTAIN GREAT REWARD. Allah (SWT) says: “…For those of you who believe and spend (in charity), for them is a great reward.” (Quran 57:7). He (SWT) also said: “Spend, O Son of Adam, and I shall spend on you.” (Sehih Bukhari 5037). The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Every day two angels come down from Heaven and one of them says, ‘O Allah! Compensate every person who spends in your cause’…” (Sahih Bukhari 2.522) 3. TO RECIVE FORGIVENESS FOR PAST SINS. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Charity extinguishes sin as water extinguishes fire.” (Ahmad, Trimidhi and Ibn Majah). 4. TO RECEIVE SHADE ON THE DAY OF JUDGMENT. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his Charity.” (Al-Tirmidhi 604) 5. TO SAVE YOURSELF FROM THE HELL-FIRE. The prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Save yourself from Hell-fire even by giving half a date-fruit in charity”. (Sahih Bukhari - Book 24 - Hadith 498). He also said: “Give charity without delay, for it stands in the way of calamity” (Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 589) 6. BECAUSE DONATING BLOOD IS HEALTHY. With every donation your blood pressure, blood sugar, and iron levels are screened for abnormalities. Your blood will also be screened for harmful diseases (Hepatitis B. ets) and you will be confidentially notified if you happen to be at risk. 7. TO SAVE A LIFE. TO SAVE A HUMANITY. By donating just 1 pint of blood you can save up to 3 lives. Blood is very much in demand (so much so that the supply of donations can barely keep up) and blood shortages on hospitals are REAL accident victims, premature babies, cancer patients, and burn victims re just some of the individuals that will benefit from your donation. Allah (SWT) says in the Quran: “…and it anyone saved a life, it would be as if he saved all of humanity.” (Quran, Al-Maidah 5:32) 8. BECAUSE YOU’RE TIRED OF NOT HAVING ANY MONEY TO GIVE. Upon realizing the great rewards for charity, some of the companions of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) asked him: O Messenger of Allah, the wealthy have departed with the rewards. They pray as we pray, they fast as we fast, and they give charity with the excess of their wealth.” He (PBUH) replied, “Has Allah not made things for you to give away in charity?...” (Sahih Muslim). The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) also mentioned that “…the doors of goodness are many…” (Fiqh-us-Sunnah, 3:98). Donating blood is your chance to be on the same playing field as those who always have money to give. It is an opportunity to win back the rewards of charity you missed out on every time you pulled your hands out of your pocket empty handed. 9. BECAUSE ONE DAY YOU MAY NEED THE FAVOR RETURNED. 1 out of 3 people will eventually need a blood transfusion in their life. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “None of you truly believes until he wishes for his brother what he wishes for himself.” (An-Nawawi's Forty Hadith 13). It is not fair to expect to receive blood if you are unwilling to give blood. 10. WHY NOT GIVE BLOOD. Donating blood is easy and 100% save. The actual time you spend donating (excluding paperwork) is only 7-10 minutes and the impact is HUGE. Put all the excuses aside and just do it. |
